A sensible mid-range chip for LGA1700
The Core i5-14500 is a hybrid 14-core processor with six Performance-cores for games and lightly threaded work and eight Efficient-cores that handle background tasks, coordinated by Intel Thread Director. It suits gamers, office and home-studio builds that want more multi-core muscle than a six-core chip without the power draw of the top models. Because it has Intel UHD Graphics 770 built in, you can get a system running and use it for everyday work before you add a graphics card, which also makes troubleshooting easier.
Compatibility and cooling
It drops into Intel 600 and 700 series motherboards on the LGA1700 socket, which may need a BIOS update on older boards. It supports both DDR5 up to 4800 MT/s and DDR4 up to 3200 MT/s, but your motherboard decides which one you can use, so match your memory to the board. Base power is 65W, yet the chip can draw up to 154W under turbo, so pair it with a capable cooler. Our supplier lists only the processor in the box. If you already own a newer LGA1851 board, this is not the chip for you.

Before you buy
Which motherboards will this CPU fit?
It uses the LGA1700 socket, so it needs a motherboard with a matching socket. Sockets are not cross-compatible - a chip will not physically fit a board built for a different one. Every motherboard we list shows its socket on the Specifications tab, and it is worth checking the board maker’s support list for a BIOS update if the board is from an earlier generation than the chip.
How many cores and threads does it have?
14 cores and 20 threads. Cores do the work; threads are the number of jobs the chip can keep in flight at once. Games lean on a handful of fast cores, while rendering, compiling and video export scale with the total count.
What sort of cooler does it need?
It is rated at 65W TDP, which is the heat a cooler has to carry away under sustained load. Match or beat that figure with the cooler you choose, and check the What’s in the box list above - some processors ship with a cooler, some do not. Our PC Builder only offers coolers that fit the socket you have picked.
Do I need a separate graphics card with it?
No - this processor has integrated graphics, so it will drive a display on its own. You still want a graphics card for gaming or GPU-accelerated creative work, but the machine will boot and run without one.
Is it in stock, and when will it ship?

What does delivery cost, and how long does it take?
We deliver by courier anywhere in South Africa, and delivery is R180 on orders under R2 500 and free on orders of R2 500 or more. It takes 1-3 working days to Johannesburg, Pretoria, Cape Town, Durban and areas within 100km of them, and 2-4 working days to areas more than 100km from a major centre, counted from the day the order is dispatched. Need it sooner? Express delivery is 1-2 working days for R210, or R150 on orders of R2 500 or more - choose it at checkout. We do not ship outside South Africa.
Can I collect instead of having it delivered?
Yes. Collection is from 11 Voortrekker Avenue, Edenvale, Gauteng, by arrangement - message us first so we can have the order picked and waiting. We are open 09:00 to 16:30, Monday to Friday.
What warranty does it carry, and how do I claim?
The warranty period for this product is listed at the end of the Specifications section above. Claims go through us, not the manufacturer - contact us with your order number and a description of the fault and we will handle it from there. Separately from any warranty, the Consumer Protection Act gives you six months from delivery to return goods that are defective, unsafe or not fit for their intended purpose.
What if I change my mind?
You have 14 days from delivery to change your mind - longer than the seven days the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act requires. The item needs to be unused and in its original packaging, and we pay the return shipping. Refunds go back to the payment method you used, within 30 days of the return reaching us.
