A strong all-rounder for gaming and creating

The i5-14600K pairs six fast Performance-cores, turbo boosting to 5.3GHz, with eight Efficient-cores that take on background tasks, streaming and multithreaded work. That makes it a capable gaming CPU that also handles video editing and rendering far better than a six-core chip. It is unlocked, so a Z790 board lets you tune it further. LGA1700 supports both DDR5 up to 5600 MT/s and DDR4 up to 3200 MT/s, so you can reuse existing DDR4 with a DDR4 motherboard, and the UHD Graphics 770 iGPU gives you display output without a card.

Cooling, power and platform

No cooler is included, and at up to 181W maximum turbo power you need a capable tower cooler or a 240mm AIO to hold its boost clocks, plus a decent power supply. LGA1700 is the end of the line for this socket, so there is no further upgrade path on the same board, unlike Intel's newer LGA1851 platform. Memory type is set by the motherboard you buy: a DDR4 board takes DDR4 only, a DDR5 board DDR5 only. If you will never overclock, a B760 board keeps costs down.
