The case for buying once
Office Home 2024 is the classic desktop suite with the pricing model most people actually want: you pay for it, you own that version, and it keeps working. Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote are the full desktop applications rather than cut-down web versions. For a student, a home office or anyone who writes documents and keeps a spreadsheet, that is the whole job done at a fixed cost.
What you give up
Being straight about the limits, because they matter. There is no Outlook and no Teams — those are in Microsoft 365, not here. There is no OneDrive storage bundled. The licence covers one PC or Mac, not five devices. And it is a frozen release: you get security fixes but not the new features Microsoft adds to 365 over the years.
