Keep your DDR4 memory and still get a PCIe 5.0 graphics slot and three M.2 drives on Intel 12th to 14th Gen
Quick Specs
- Intel B760 chipset, LGA1700 for Core 12th, 13th and 14th Gen
- 4 x DDR4 DIMM, up to 128GB, XMP up to 5066 MT/s (OC)
- PCIe 5.0 x16 graphics slot
- 3 x M.2 PCIe 4.0 plus 4 x SATA 6Gb/s
- Realtek 2.5Gb Ethernet, rear USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 Type-C
The DDR4 route to a modern Intel build
The D4 in the name matters: this board takes DDR4 memory, not DDR5. That makes it a good fit if you are upgrading from an older Intel or AMD system and want to carry over a 16GB or 32GB DDR4 kit, saving real money on the build. It is a full ATX board with a PCIe 5.0 x16 slot for the graphics card, three M.2 slots at PCIe 4.0, a 20Gbps USB-C port on the rear and 2.5Gb LAN. DisplayPort, HDMI and VGA outputs work with Intel CPUs that have integrated graphics, which helps office builds that do not need a graphics card.
Trade-offs to consider
DDR4 locks you out of DDR5's higher bandwidth, which helps some games and creative workloads with Core i7 and i9 CPUs; if you are buying new memory anyway, a DDR5 B760 board is the better long-term choice. LGA1700 is also the end of the line for this socket, so there is no upgrade path beyond 14th Gen. There is no Wi-Fi or Bluetooth onboard, only an M.2 Key E slot for a module sold separately. B760 does not allow CPU overclocking, though memory XMP works. The third M.2 slot runs at PCIe 4.0 x2.
FEATURES:
- PCIe 5.0 x16 slot with SafeSlot Core+ reinforcement
- Three M.2 slots with heatsink and Q-Latch tool-free installation
- USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 Type-C (20Gbps) on the rear
- VRM, M.2 and PCH heatsinks with Fan Xpert 2+ control
- Q-LED Core diagnostics and FlexKey reset button
