The one to buy on AM4
Full 32MB of L3 cache, a proper 4.4GHz boost and PCIe 4.0 for both the graphics card and NVMe storage. That combination is why the 5600 has stayed the default recommendation for budget gaming builds long after newer parts arrived. It will comfortably drive an RTX 4070 or RX 7800 XT at 1440p without becoming the bottleneck, and it does it on 65W with the included cooler. For most people building to a budget, spending more on the GPU and putting a 5600 behind it is the right call.
Who should look elsewhere
If you stream while you game, or you render and compile as much as you play, six cores will feel tight — the Ryzen 7 5700X doubles the core count for meaningful money but real gains in that work. And if you're starting fresh rather than upgrading an existing AM4 board, AM5 gives you DDR5 and a socket with years of upgrades ahead of it. The 5600 is the smart buy when you already own the motherboard and RAM.

- Full 32MB L3 cache — no cut-down cache like the 5500
- PCIe 4.0 for full-speed GPUs and NVMe drives

- Drops into almost any AM4 board with a BIOS update
