AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D 8-Core 4.7GHz AM5 CPU

3D V-Cache moved beneath the cores — so for the first time an X3D chip clocks as high as it plays.

Quick Specs

• 8 cores / 16 threads, 4.7GHz base, up to 5.2GHz boost
• 104MB total cache (8MB L2 + 96MB L3 with 3D V-Cache)
• 120W TDP, AM5 socket, DDR5-5600 up to 256GB
• PCIe 5.0, 28 lanes; Radeon graphics on board
• Fully unlocked — the first overclockable X3D

The fastest gaming processor you can buy

AMD flipped the design on the 9800X3D: the cache now sits under the cores rather than on top, so heat escapes properly and the clocks no longer have to be held back. The result is a 4.7GHz base — higher than the 7800X3D's boost — plus the full 96MB of 3D V-Cache. In games it is simply the quickest desktop CPU available, and the gap is largest exactly where it matters: minimum frame rates at high refresh, in the cache-hungry titles that make other chips stutter.

What you're paying for, and what you're not

This is a premium part and it behaves like one — it's the chip to pair with an RTX 5080 or 5090 at 1440p high-refresh, where a slower CPU would waste the card. What it isn't is a rendering workstation: for heavy multi-threaded production, a Ryzen 9 9950X has twice the cores for similar money. It also runs at 120W with no cooler included, so plan on a 240–360mm AIO or a top-tier air cooler.

FEATURES:

• Second-generation 3D V-Cache placed below the cores for better thermals
• 4.7GHz base — highest of any X3D processor
• Fully unlocked and overclockable, unlike earlier X3D chips
• 96MB L3 cache with PCIe 5.0
• DDR5-5600 support up to 256GB
