Z890 overclocking and DDR5 headroom without the flagship price tag

- Intel Z890 chipset on LGA1851 for Core Ultra Series 2 processors
- Four DDR5 DIMM slots with memory overclocking support
- ATX form factor with heatsinked M.2 storage
- Onboard Wi-Fi 7 and 2.5 Gigabit wired Ethernet
- USB4 Type-C rear connectivity via the Z890 platform
The sensible way into Intel's latest platform
The Prime Z890-P WiFi is aimed at the builder who wants the full Z890 feature set — CPU and memory overclocking, generous PCIe 5.0 and M.2 provisioning, USB4 — without paying ROG money for RGB and a display readout. It is a strong pairing for a Core Ultra 7 or Ultra 9 gaming and content machine. For South African buyers assembling a mid-to-high tier system, this is usually the board that leaves the most budget intact for the GPU, which is where the frames actually come from. Layout is conventional and roomy, so cable routing in a standard ATX chassis is straightforward.
Where it holds back
Prime is ASUS's value line and it shows in the finish rather than the function. You do not get the thick armour plating, the diagnostic display, the flagship audio codec or the multi-gig 5G/10G networking found further up the range. VRM cooling is competent for stock and mild overclocking on a Core Ultra 9, but if you plan to run sustained heavy all-core loads with aggressive voltage, a ROG Strix or Maximus board gives you more thermal margin. If your build is a small-form-factor project, this ATX board is simply the wrong shape — look at a Mini-ITX Z890 instead.
