The 12100F, tuned up
Same four-core layout as the 12100F, but with the base lifted to 3.5GHz and turbo to 4.7GHz. In games, where single-thread speed still rules, that 400MHz is worth a genuine handful of frames for very little extra money. It remains the cheapest sensible foundation for a 1080p gaming PC: modest 58W draw, cheap B760 boards, and DDR4 support so existing memory can carry over.
Still four cores
The clock bump doesn't change the fundamental limit — four cores and eight threads. Titles built around six or more threads will lean on it, and streaming while gaming is not realistic here. The i5-14400 is the step up when that matters. "F" also means no display output without a graphics card. As a low-cost gaming CPU with nothing else asked of it, though, this is the pick of the entry range.

Before you buy
Which motherboards will this CPU fit?
It uses the LGA1700 socket, so it needs a motherboard with a matching socket. Sockets are not cross-compatible - a chip will not physically fit a board built for a different one. Every motherboard we list shows its socket on the Specifications tab, and it is worth checking the board maker’s support list for a BIOS update if the board is from an earlier generation than the chip.
How many cores and threads does it have?
4 cores and 8 threads. Cores do the work; threads are the number of jobs the chip can keep in flight at once. Games lean on a handful of fast cores, while rendering, compiling and video export scale with the total count.
What sort of cooler does it need?
It is rated at 58W TDP, which is the heat a cooler has to carry away under sustained load. Match or beat that figure with the cooler you choose, and check the What’s in the box list above - some processors ship with a cooler, some do not. Our PC Builder only offers coolers that fit the socket you have picked.
Do I need a separate graphics card with it?
Yes. This processor has no integrated graphics, so you will need a graphics card in the machine for it to output any picture at all. Budget for one in the build rather than treating it as a later upgrade.
Is it in stock, and when will it ship?

What does delivery cost, and how long does it take?
We deliver by courier anywhere in South Africa, and delivery is R180 on orders under R2 500 and free on orders of R2 500 or more. It takes 1-3 working days to Johannesburg, Pretoria, Cape Town, Durban and areas within 100km of them, and 2-4 working days to areas more than 100km from a major centre, counted from the day the order is dispatched. Need it sooner? Express delivery is 1-2 working days for R210, or R150 on orders of R2 500 or more - choose it at checkout. We do not ship outside South Africa.
Can I collect instead of having it delivered?
Yes. Collection is from 11 Voortrekker Avenue, Edenvale, Gauteng, by arrangement - message us first so we can have the order picked and waiting. We are open 09:00 to 16:30, Monday to Friday.
What warranty does it carry, and how do I claim?
The warranty period for this product is listed at the end of the Specifications section above. Claims go through us, not the manufacturer - contact us with your order number and a description of the fault and we will handle it from there. Separately from any warranty, the Consumer Protection Act gives you six months from delivery to return goods that are defective, unsafe or not fit for their intended purpose.
What if I change my mind?
You have 14 days from delivery to change your mind - longer than the seven days the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act requires. The item needs to be unused and in its original packaging, and we pay the return shipping. Refunds go back to the payment method you used, within 30 days of the return reaching us.
