A small, cheap SATA drive to get an old machine booting off flash.
The Hiksemi Wave(S) 128GB is a 2.5" SATA III drive for the most basic upgrade there is: getting an ageing desktop or notebook off a mechanical hard disk. At 128GB it is an operating system and applications drive only, since one modern game would fill it. It mounts in any standard 2.5" bay with SATA data and power cables.
Key Features
- 460MB/s read, 370MB/s write: honest sequential figures, and still many times quicker than the hard drive it replaces.
- 28K read / 51K write random 4K IOPS: random access is where a flash drive transforms boot and application launch times.
- 3D NAND flash: paired with an advanced SSD controller for stable everyday performance.
- Anti-shock and anti-fall: no mechanical structure at all, so knocks and vibration that would kill a notebook hard drive are a non-issue.
- 40TB written endurance: a stated TBW rating, with a 1,500,000 hour MTBF figure.
- SATA III, backwards compatible to SATA II: it will run in older machines, just at the older interface's speed.
