When rank actually matters
Most buyers never think about memory rank, but on DDR3 hardware it occasionally decides whether a machine posts. Some older chipsets and many OEM prebuilt boards expect a particular rank arrangement, and a few actually run better with dual-rank modules because the memory controller can interleave across ranks. This module exists for exactly those cases: matching an existing dual-rank stick, satisfying an OEM service specification, or replacing a failed module in a machine that has proven fussy. It runs at the standard 1600MHz on 1.5V, so there is nothing to configure in BIOS.
What it is not
This is a legacy repair part. Four gigabytes is well below what modern software expects and nowhere near a gaming configuration — 16GB is the practical floor for current titles, and 8GB already struggles. Do not buy this hoping to make an old desktop feel new; DDR3 platforms are end of life and the CPU is the deeper limit anyway. If you have a choice, put the money toward a modern DDR4 or DDR5 machine instead. If you simply need capacity on DDR3 and rank is not a constraint, an 8GB module is better value per rand than this one. Note also that dual-rank modules can be harder to mix with single-rank sticks on some boards, and that DDR3 physically will not seat in a DDR4 or DDR5 slot. Check your motherboard's QVL before ordering.
