A 256GB SATA drive for a boot disk that just needs to be quick.
The Hiksemi E100 is a 256GB 2.5" SATA III drive aimed squarely at older desktops and notebooks still running a mechanical disk. At this capacity it is best used as an operating system and applications drive, or as a cheap cache disk, rather than a games library, since a single modern title can fill most of it. It fits any standard 2.5" bay and connects with SATA data and power.
Key Features
- Up to 550MB/s read, 450MB/s write: the read figure sits at the SATA III ceiling, so it is as quick as the interface allows.
- 60K/70K random 4K IOPS: random performance is what makes a boot drive feel snappy, and this is where the gap over a hard drive is widest.
- 120TB written endurance: a stated TBW rating, so you know what the drive is warranted to absorb over its life.
- 3D NAND with no moving parts: vibration resistant, silent, and immune to the head crashes that finish off notebook hard drives.
- 1.8W maximum draw: low enough to help rather than hurt battery life in an older laptop.
- TRIM support and a 2,000,000 hour MTBF rating: housekeeping runs in the background so speed holds up as the drive fills.

Questions
Before you buy
Will this drive fit my motherboard?
It connects over SATA III in the 2.5 inch form factor. Check that your board has a free slot of that type - an M.2 drive needs an M.2 socket of the right length, a SATA drive needs a SATA port and a power lead from the supply. A drive will still work in a slower slot than it is rated for, it just will not reach its full speed.
How much will actually fit on it?
It is a 256GB drive. Formatted capacity always reads a little lower than the number on the box because drive makers count in decimal gigabytes and Windows reports binary ones - that is normal and not a fault. Leaving roughly ten percent free also helps an SSD hold its write speed over time.
Is it in stock, and when will it ship?
This one is out of stock at the moment. Stock does come back in - WhatsApp us on 079 491 0181 with the model and we will tell you what the supplier is showing and let you know when it lands, rather than leaving you to keep checking the page.
What does delivery cost, and how long does it take?
We deliver by courier anywhere in South Africa, and delivery is R180 on orders under R2 500 and free on orders of R2 500 or more. It takes 1-3 working days to Johannesburg, Pretoria, Cape Town, Durban and areas within 100km of them, and 2-4 working days to areas more than 100km from a major centre, counted from the day the order is dispatched. Need it sooner? Express delivery is 1-2 working days for R210, or R150 on orders of R2 500 or more - choose it at checkout. We do not ship outside South Africa.
Can I collect instead of having it delivered?
Yes. Collection is from 11 Voortrekker Avenue, Edenvale, Gauteng, by arrangement - message us first so we can have the order picked and waiting. We are open 09:00 to 16:30, Monday to Friday.
What warranty does it carry, and how do I claim?
The warranty period for this product is listed at the end of the Specifications section above. Claims go through us, not the manufacturer - contact us with your order number and a description of the fault and we will handle it from there. Separately from any warranty, the Consumer Protection Act gives you six months from delivery to return goods that are defective, unsafe or not fit for their intended purpose.
What if I change my mind?
You have 14 days from delivery to change your mind - longer than the seven days the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act requires. The item needs to be unused and in its original packaging, and we pay the return shipping. Refunds go back to the payment method you used, within 30 days of the return reaching us.
How can I pay?
Payments are processed by Stitch. At the last step of checkout you are taken to Stitch’s secure page to pay, and brought back here once it is done. Your card details are entered on Stitch’s secure, PCI-compliant page and never touch our systems.
