The practical legacy upgrade
8GB is the capacity that makes an old DDR3 desktop pleasant to use again. A machine stuck on 4GB spends its life swapping to disk once a browser and an office suite are open; doubling to 8GB, or replacing a pair of 4GB sticks with two of these for 16GB, removes most of that. This is a repair and refresh part, aimed at office desktops, home machines and workshop PCs from roughly 2009 to 2015 that still do their job. At 1600MHz it matches what those chipsets support, and it boots at rated speed from SPD without any BIOS configuration.
The limits of a DDR3 machine
No amount of memory turns a DDR3 platform into a gaming PC. The CPUs of that era are the real constraint, and even with 16GB fitted a modern title will not run well. Buy this to make an old machine usable, not fast. If you want framerates, the money belongs in a DDR4 or DDR5 build instead. Also note that a single stick runs in single channel, which noticeably hurts the integrated graphics common on these older boards; if you have a free slot, a matching second module is worth having. DDR3 will not fit a DDR4 or DDR5 slot, so confirm your board's generation first.

Before you buy
Will this memory work in my PC?
This is DDR3 rated at 1600 MT/s. Your motherboard has to support the same generation - DDR4 and DDR5 modules are keyed differently and will not physically fit the wrong board. The rated speed needs the memory profile (XMP on Intel, EXPO on AMD) switched on in the BIOS; without it the kit runs at the board’s default speed.
What exactly is in this kit?
8GB in total, supplied as 1 matched modules. Modules sold together are tested to run as a set, which is why a kit is the safer buy than two single sticks bought separately. Fit them in the slots your motherboard manual specifies for dual channel - usually the second and fourth from the CPU.
Is it in stock, and when will it ship?
Yes - this one is in stock. Order before 12:00 on a working day and it ships the same day; after that it goes out the next working day. We are open 09:00 to 16:30, Monday to Friday, so an order placed over a weekend or a public holiday ships on the next working day.
What does delivery cost, and how long does it take?
We deliver by courier anywhere in South Africa, and delivery is R180 on orders under R2 500 and free on orders of R2 500 or more. It takes 1-3 working days to Johannesburg, Pretoria, Cape Town, Durban and areas within 100km of them, and 2-4 working days to areas more than 100km from a major centre, counted from the day the order is dispatched. Can I collect instead of having it delivered?
Yes. Collection is from 11 Voortrekker Avenue, Edenvale, Gauteng, by arrangement - message us first so we can have the order picked and waiting. We are open 09:00 to 16:30, Monday to Friday.
What warranty does it carry, and how do I claim?
The warranty period for this product is listed at the end of the Specifications section above. Claims go through us, not the manufacturer - contact us with your order number and a description of the fault and we will handle it from there. Separately from any warranty, the Consumer Protection Act gives you six months from delivery to return goods that are defective, unsafe or not fit for their intended purpose.
What if I change my mind?
You have 14 days from delivery to change your mind - longer than the seven days the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act requires. The item needs to be unused and in its original packaging, and we pay the return shipping. Refunds go back to the payment method you used, within 30 days of the return reaching us.
