What R96 129 actually buys
The 24GB frame buffer, mostly. That is more VRAM than most desktop graphics cards ship with, and it removes the one constraint that affects every other machine in this collection - the ability to run native 2.5K with ray tracing and full-resolution textures, to work with 8K footage, or to run large local AI models without spilling into system memory. The Core Ultra 9 290HX and 32GB of DDR5-6400 are there to keep up with it, and the 2TB drive means you are not managing storage.
Be honest about whether you need it
For gaming alone, this is not twice the machine the RTX 5080 Strix G16 is at R67 999, and it is 600 grams heavier in a body two inches wider. The SCAR earns its price for people doing professional work that is genuinely VRAM-bound - 3D, video at high resolutions, machine learning - who also want it to be the best gaming laptop available. If that is not you, buy the G16 and spend the difference on a monitor.
