The fastest-clocked six-core AMD ever put on AM4 — 4.7GHz boost on a socket you may already own.
Quick Specs
- 6 cores / 12 threads, 3.7GHz base, up to 4.7GHz boost
- 35MB total cache (3MB L2 + 32MB L3)
- 65W TDP, AM4 socket, DDR4-3200 dual channel
- PCIe 4.0, Wraith Stealth cooler included
- Unlocked multiplier
A late-life send-off for AM4
The 5600XT takes the recipe that made the 5600 a classic — full 32MB L3, PCIe 4.0, 65W — and pushes the clocks to the top of what Zen 3 will do: 3.7GHz base and 4.7GHz boost. In games that lean on single-thread speed, that 300MHz over the 5600 is worth a few percent for free, no overclocking required. If you have a B550 board and DDR4 already sitting in a case, this is the strongest six-core you can drop in without touching anything else.
Worth the premium over a 5600?
Honestly: only just. You're paying for higher clocks on the same silicon, and the real-world gap is small enough that if the 5600 is meaningfully cheaper on the day, take the 5600. Buy the 5600XT when the price difference is slim, or when you want the best AM4 six-core available and don't intend to upgrade again. Anyone chasing the outright fastest AM4 gaming chip should be looking at the 5800X3D instead.

Questions
Before you buy
Which motherboards will this CPU fit?
It uses the AM4 socket, so it needs a motherboard with a matching socket. Sockets are not cross-compatible - a chip will not physically fit a board built for a different one. Every motherboard we list shows its socket on the Specifications tab, and it is worth checking the board maker’s support list for a BIOS update if the board is from an earlier generation than the chip.
How many cores and threads does it have?
6 cores and 12 threads. Cores do the work; threads are the number of jobs the chip can keep in flight at once. Games lean on a handful of fast cores, while rendering, compiling and video export scale with the total count.
What sort of cooler does it need?
It is rated at 65W TDP, which is the heat a cooler has to carry away under sustained load. Match or beat that figure with the cooler you choose, and check the What’s in the box list above - some processors ship with a cooler, some do not. Our PC Builder only offers coolers that fit the socket you have picked.
Do I need a separate graphics card with it?
Yes. This processor has no integrated graphics, so you will need a graphics card in the machine for it to output any picture at all. Budget for one in the build rather than treating it as a later upgrade.
Is it in stock, and when will it ship?
Yes - this one is in stock. Order before 12:00 on a working day and it ships the same day; after that it goes out the next working day. We are open 09:00 to 16:30, Monday to Friday, so an order placed over a weekend or a public holiday ships on the next working day.
What does delivery cost, and how long does it take?
We deliver by courier anywhere in South Africa, and delivery is R180 on orders under R2 500 and free on orders of R2 500 or more. It takes 1-3 working days to Johannesburg, Pretoria, Cape Town, Durban and areas within 100km of them, and 2-4 working days to areas more than 100km from a major centre, counted from the day the order is dispatched. Need it sooner? Express delivery is 1-2 working days for R210, or R150 on orders of R2 500 or more - choose it at checkout. We do not ship outside South Africa.
Can I collect instead of having it delivered?
Yes. Collection is from 11 Voortrekker Avenue, Edenvale, Gauteng, by arrangement - message us first so we can have the order picked and waiting. We are open 09:00 to 16:30, Monday to Friday.
What warranty does it carry, and how do I claim?
The warranty period for this product is listed at the end of the Specifications section above. Claims go through us, not the manufacturer - contact us with your order number and a description of the fault and we will handle it from there. Separately from any warranty, the Consumer Protection Act gives you six months from delivery to return goods that are defective, unsafe or not fit for their intended purpose.
What if I change my mind?
You have 14 days from delivery to change your mind - longer than the seven days the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act requires. The item needs to be unused and in its original packaging, and we pay the return shipping. Refunds go back to the payment method you used, within 30 days of the return reaching us.
How can I pay?
Payments are processed by Stitch. At the last step of checkout you are taken to Stitch’s secure page to pay, and brought back here once it is done. Your card details are entered on Stitch’s secure, PCI-compliant page and never touch our systems.
