Samsung's first PCIe 5.0 consumer drive, with sequential reads of up to 14,700MB/s, about double a Gen 4 flagship.
Quick Specs
- 1TB M.2 2280, PCIe 5.0 x4, NVMe 2.0
- Up to 14,700MB/s read, 13,300MB/s write
- Up to 1,850K / 2,600K random read/write IOPS
- 1GB LPDDR4X DRAM cache, V-NAND TLC
- 600 TBW, 5 year warranty
For PCIe 5.0 platforms
The 9100 PRO is built for current AM5 and Intel boards with a PCIe 5.0 M.2 slot. Samsung markets it as roughly twice the 990 PRO's sequential speed, and its random figures (up to 1,850,000 read and 2,600,000 write IOPS) are aimed at large game installs, content creation and local AI workloads. It keeps a dedicated 1GB DRAM cache and Samsung's in-house controller, and Samsung claims up to 49% better power efficiency than the previous generation, with improved thermal control.
Do you need Gen 5?
Only a PCIe 5.0 M.2 slot unlocks this speed. On a Gen 4 board, it runs at Gen 4 rates, so a 990 PRO would cost less for the same result. In gaming, load times improve far less than the headline numbers suggest. The real gains come in big file copies and heavy creative work. This is the bare 2.38mm drive, and PCIe 5.0 drives run hot, so use your motherboard's M.2 heatsink. Laptops without Gen 5 M.2 support should skip it.

- Improved power efficiency and thermal control
- Samsung Magician for management, health tracking and firmware updates
