The capacity most gamers should buy
With modern games regularly over 100GB, 2TB is the size where a single fast drive can hold Windows, your apps and a proper game library. This capacity also lifts random read to 1,400,000 IOPS (from 1,200,000 on the 1TB) and pairs it with a 2GB DRAM cache, so it stays quick even as it fills. Sequential speeds of up to 7,450MB/s read and 6,900MB/s write sit near the top of what PCIe 4.0 allows, and it supports DirectStorage for faster game asset loading.
Heatsink, Gen 5, or a cheaper drive?
This is the bare 2.3mm drive, intended for motherboards with their own M.2 heatsink and for laptops. For a PS5 or a board without M.2 cooling, the 990 PRO 2TB with Heatsink is the better choice. If your platform has PCIe 5.0, the 9100 PRO is about twice as fast sequentially. If you mainly want capacity for games rather than top speed, the 990 EVO Plus 2TB costs less.
FEATURES:
- PCIe 4.0 sequential speeds up to 7,450MB/s read and 6,900MB/s write
- Up to 1,400K random read IOPS for faster loading
- 2GB Low Power DDR4 DRAM cache
- Nickel-coated controller, heat spreader label and Dynamic Thermal Guard
- Samsung Magician for benchmarks, health checks and firmware updates
