Built for the PS5 and boards without M.2 cooling

This is the same 990 PRO drive, with the same 1GB DRAM cache and 7,450MB/s read speed, but with a factory-fitted heatsink that helps it hold top speed through long game installs and file copies instead of throttling. Samsung designed the heatsink to fit the PS5 and PCs that follow the PCI-SIG D8 height standard, so there is no need to buy and fit a third-party cooler. It also adds RGB lighting you can control in Samsung Magician, which shows through a windowed PC case.

Bare drive or heatsink?

Skip this version if your motherboard already has a heatsink over the M.2 slot, since you would have to remove the board's cooler or this one, and the bare 990 PRO is cheaper. It is also too thick for most laptops. The heatsink adds height (8.2mm) and weight (28g), so check clearance under large GPUs on some boards. For a PS5, this is the simplest high-end option available.
