Twenty-four flagship cores inside a 65W base — the quiet way to run Intel's biggest desktop chip.
Quick Specs
- 24 cores (8 P-cores + 16 E-cores) / 24 threads
- 2.5GHz P-core base, up to 5.6GHz turbo
- 36MB Intel Smart Cache
- 65W base power, 182W max turbo
- Intel Graphics, 4 Xe-cores up to 2.0GHz; 13 TOPS NPU
Flagship cores, workstation manners
The 285 keeps everything structural about the 285K — twenty-four cores, 36MB of cache, a 5.6GHz turbo just 100MHz below it — but drops the base power from 125W to 65W and the ceiling from 250W to 182W. For a machine that spends its day on long encodes, renders or builds, that is a much easier chip to live with: less heat in the room, quieter fans, and a normal tower cooler rather than a mandatory 360mm AIO.
The trade, stated plainly
A 2.5GHz base means that under sustained all-core load it settles lower than the K and takes longer on the heaviest jobs. It's also locked, so no overclocking. And within the range, the Core Ultra 7 270K has the same core count and cache with a higher base for less money — worth comparing carefully before choosing this. Buy the 285 specifically when you want flagship capability in a quiet, efficient build.
