Where the extra cores go
The six Performance-cores run your game at up to 4.7GHz while the four efficiency cores take on Windows, Discord, browsers and background tasks. Compared to a straight six-core, that means the game keeps its cores to itself — fewer hitches when something starts up in the background. Sixteen threads also make light editing and encoding realistic. UHD 730 graphics mean it posts and displays without a card, and 65W keeps cooling simple.
The comparison to make
Against the older i5-12400F, the 14400 adds four efficiency cores, more cache and higher clocks, for a step up in price — worth it if you multitask, less so for gaming alone. It's locked, so no overclocking, and under sustained load it will pull up to 148W, which the bundled cooler will struggle with; budget for a tower cooler. LGA1700 is also end-of-life, so treat this as a value buy rather than an upgrade platform.

Before you buy
Which motherboards will this CPU fit?
It uses the LGA1700 socket, so it needs a motherboard with a matching socket. Sockets are not cross-compatible - a chip will not physically fit a board built for a different one. Every motherboard we list shows its socket on the Specifications tab, and it is worth checking the board maker’s support list for a BIOS update if the board is from an earlier generation than the chip.
How many cores and threads does it have?
10 cores and 16 threads. Cores do the work; threads are the number of jobs the chip can keep in flight at once. Games lean on a handful of fast cores, while rendering, compiling and video export scale with the total count.
What sort of cooler does it need?
It is rated at 65W TDP, which is the heat a cooler has to carry away under sustained load. Match or beat that figure with the cooler you choose, and check the What’s in the box list above - some processors ship with a cooler, some do not. Our PC Builder only offers coolers that fit the socket you have picked.
Do I need a separate graphics card with it?
No - this processor has integrated graphics, so it will drive a display on its own. You still want a graphics card for gaming or GPU-accelerated creative work, but the machine will boot and run without one.
Is it in stock, and when will it ship?

Can I collect instead of having it delivered?
Yes. Collection is from 11 Voortrekker Avenue, Edenvale, Gauteng, by arrangement - message us first so we can have the order picked and waiting. We are open 09:00 to 16:30, Monday to Friday.
What warranty does it carry, and how do I claim?
The warranty period for this product is listed at the end of the Specifications section above. Claims go through us, not the manufacturer - contact us with your order number and a description of the fault and we will handle it from there. Separately from any warranty, the Consumer Protection Act gives you six months from delivery to return goods that are defective, unsafe or not fit for their intended purpose.
What if I change my mind?
You have 14 days from delivery to change your mind - longer than the seven days the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act requires. The item needs to be unused and in its original packaging, and we pay the return shipping. Refunds go back to the payment method you used, within 30 days of the return reaching us.
