A kilowatt is more than most South African builds need, and that is the point of buying one. With 83A on +12V, a 350W graphics card and a 250W CPU still leave the unit sitting near half load, which is exactly where the 80 Plus Gold curve is most efficient and where the fan has the least work to do. The ATX12V V3.1 design is built to ride out the brief power excursions modern GPUs throw at a supply rather than tripping over protection. If you are running a single mid-range card and no ambitions beyond it, the 850W sibling is the smarter spend.

A native 12V-2x6 cable, not an adapter

The PQ1000G ships with a native 12V-2x6 (16-pin) cable that runs straight from the supply to the card. That removes the octopus adapter that has caused most of the melted-connector stories, and it removes four PCIe plugs from the back of your case. The rest of the cabling is fully modular, so the four SATA and four peripheral leads stay in the box unless you actually have drives and fans to feed. On a Half Bridge SRC LLC and DC-to-DC platform with a fluid dynamic bearing fan, this is a quiet unit at the loads most people run it at.
