The cheapest honest entry to AM5, with Wi-Fi and DDR5 already in the box
Quick Specs
- AMD A620 chipset, Socket AM5 for Ryzen 7000, 8000 and 9000 series
- Micro-ATX form factor, 244 x 244 mm
- 4 x DDR5 DIMM slots with AMD EXPO memory profile support
- PCIe 4.0 x16 graphics slot and M.2 NVMe storage
- Wi-Fi and 2.5 Gb Ethernet onboard
Getting onto AM5 without overspending
The whole argument for AM5 is longevity: AMD has committed to the socket for years yet, so a board bought now will take CPUs that do not exist today. The A620M-Plus WiFi is the least expensive way to get there without buying something you will resent. It has four DDR5 slots rather than the two you find on cheaper boards, integrated Wi-Fi so a small flat or a room far from the router is not a problem, 2.5 Gb wired networking, and the same ASUS UEFI as boards three times the price. Pair it with a 7600 or 8600G and you have a genuinely modern machine.
The corners that were cut
A620 has no CPU overclocking and its memory speed support is more conservative than B650 or B850, so a very fast EXPO kit may run below its rated speed. PCIe is 4.0, not 5.0, on both the graphics slot and M.2, which costs nothing in real gaming performance today but leaves less headroom later. The VRM is sized for mid-range chips: a 7600, 7700 or 8600G is comfortable, but a 7950X or 9950X under a long all-core render will hit power limits. Expansion and M.2 counts are modest. Anyone wanting to run a Ryzen 9 hard should buy B650 or B850.
