- 1 x PCIe 5.0 x16, 4 x M.2 (two PCIe 5.0 x4)
- Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5.4, Intel 2.5Gb Ethernet
- 2 x USB4 40Gbps, 12 rear USB ports in total
A well-equipped gaming board for Ryzen 9000
The Strix X870-A Gaming WiFi is aimed at a Ryzen 7 9800X3D or Ryzen 9 gaming build, and its lighter A-series styling suits white or silver builds. You get a PCIe 5.0 x16 slot, two PCIe 5.0 x4 M.2 slots from the CPU and two more PCIe 4.0 M.2 slots from the chipset. The rear panel is generous: two USB4 ports with DisplayPort Alt Mode, a USB-C with 30W PD charging, and twelve USB ports in all. SupremeFX ALC4080 audio with a Savitech amplifier is a step above the Prime and TUF boards.
Lane sharing and other trade-offs
Read the storage notes before you plan four NVMe drives. Populating M.2_2 drops the main graphics slot from x16 to x8, and using M.2_3 disables the second x16 slot. For most current graphics cards PCIe 5.0 x8 is fine, but it is worth knowing. There are only two SATA ports, so it is not for a board full of hard drives, and Ryzen 8000 APUs lose M.2_2 altogether. The Wi-Fi 7 module runs at 160MHz rather than 320MHz and needs Windows 11.
FEATURES:
- Two PCIe 5.0 x4 M.2 slots plus a PCIe 5.0 x16 graphics slot
