The sensible ROG board for a Core Ultra build that spends its money on the GPU

Core Ultra without paying the Z890 tax
Intel's Core Ultra 200S chips are locked-multiplier parts for most buyers anyway, which makes B860 the honest choice. The B860-F gives you the same ROG Strix build quality, the same PCIe 5.0 graphics and storage, the same Wi-Fi 7 radio and the same rear I/O density as the Z-series boards, and asks a few thousand rand less. For a South African buyer putting together a Core Ultra 7 gaming machine, that difference is a meaningful GPU upgrade. Memory overclocking is still supported through XMP, so a fast DDR5 kit will run at its rated speed rather than falling back to JEDEC.
Where B860 draws the line
CPU multiplier overclocking is a Z890 feature and it is not here. If you bought a K-series part specifically to push it past stock, this is the wrong board. B860 also has fewer chipset lanes than Z890, so you get less expansion downstream once the M.2 sockets are filled, and Thunderbolt 4 or USB4 is generally reserved for the higher tier. There is no second full-bandwidth x16 slot. Buyers running a capture card, a 10 Gb NIC and four NVMe drives, or anyone chasing a CPU overclocking record, should be looking at the Z890-H or Z890-E instead.
