The small-case AM5 build, properly equipped
Micro-ATX cases are popular for good reason: they fit on a desk, they cost less, and they still take a full-length graphics card and a tower cooler. The catch is usually connectivity, and this board removes it. You get Wi-Fi and Bluetooth without spending a PCIe slot, 2.5G Ethernet for fast local file moves, and four DDR5 slots so a compact machine is not stuck at 64GB. Build it around a Ryzen 5 9600X or Ryzen 7 9700X and you have a quiet, tidy system that handles gaming, editing and everyday work with room to grow on the AM5 socket.
Be clear on the limits
B840 sits below B850 in the AM5 stack. The graphics slot is PCIe 4.0 rather than 5.0, Gen5 NVMe support is restricted relative to the higher chipsets, and CPU overclocking is more limited than on B650 or B850, so this is a board for stock operation and Precision Boost Overdrive rather than manual tuning. Micro-ATX also constrains expansion to fewer slots and less rear I/O. If you want Gen5 storage, extensive overclocking control, or space for multiple add-in cards, buy a B850 or X870 ATX board instead.
FEATURES:
- Onboard Wi-Fi and Bluetooth with 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet on a compact board
- Four DDR5 slots with AMD EXPO one-click memory profiles
- Two M.2 sockets with heatsink coverage and Q-Latch tool-free mounting
- PCIe Slot Q-Release for straightforward graphics card removal in a tight case
- BIOS FlashBack for updating firmware without a CPU installed
