Modern Intel performance on the DDR4 you may already own
Quick Specs
- Intel B760 chipset on LGA1700 for 12th, 13th and 14th generation Core processors
- Four DDR4 DIMM slots, dual channel, up to 128GB
- PCIe 4.0 x16 graphics slot
- Two M.2 sockets for NVMe SSDs plus four SATA 6Gb/s ports
- Micro-ATX CSM commercial variant with 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet and rear USB-C
The pragmatic Intel build
Choosing DDR4 on B760 is a deliberate cost decision, and a good one. A Core i5-13400F or 14400F loses almost nothing in gaming against a DDR5 setup, while the memory saving goes straight into a better graphics card. If you are upgrading from an older Intel machine and already have a decent DDR4 kit, that saving is larger still. The CSM designation means this board carries the commercial support programme, so it also suits office fleets and workstations where predictable firmware revisions and longer availability matter more than lighting effects.
What you are trading away
DDR4 has a ceiling. If you plan to keep this system for many years and want the highest possible memory bandwidth for productivity or simulation workloads, DDR5 is the better long-term choice, and this board cannot take it. B760 does not allow CPU overclocking either, so a K-series chip only gives you its stock boost behaviour. There is no onboard Wi-Fi, no PCIe 5.0, and the Micro-ATX layout keeps expansion modest. LGA1700 is also a socket at the end of its life, so there is no meaningful CPU upgrade path beyond 14th generation.
