X870 features without the X870E price — a sensible full-size AM5 board for a Ryzen 9000 build
Quick Specs
- AMD X870 chipset on the AM5 socket for Ryzen 7000, 8000 and 9000 Series processors
- Full ATX form factor with four DDR5 DIMM slots
- PCIe 5.0 graphics slot and PCIe 5.0 M.2 storage support
- USB4 Type-C on the rear panel as part of the X870 specification
- WiFi with Bluetooth plus 2.5 Gigabit wired LAN
The practical X870 choice
X870 gives you the things that actually change how a machine feels day to day: USB4 for fast external drives and docks, PCIe 5.0 for the graphics card and the boot SSD, and headroom in the power delivery for a Ryzen 7 or Ryzen 9. This board takes that platform and spends the budget on VRM, cooling and connectivity rather than on RGB armour and a screen. For a South African buyer putting together a long-life gaming or streaming rig on AM5 — a socket AMD has committed to supporting for years yet — it is a reasonable place to land without paying flagship money.
Where it stops short
This is not an X870E board, so you get one chipset rather than two and correspondingly fewer total PCIe lanes and rear USB ports. If you plan to run several add-in cards at full bandwidth, or you want the maximum possible M.2 count, X870E or a Taichi-class board is the better fit. The audio is a solid mainstream codec rather than an ESS DAC implementation, and the heatsink and aesthetic treatment are functional rather than showpiece. Extreme memory overclockers will also find higher-binned four-slot boards that clock further. For most builds, none of that will limit you.

- WiFi and Bluetooth on board alongside 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet
