A compact, dependable home for a 12th, 13th or 14th generation Intel build
Quick Specs
- Intel B760 chipset, Socket LGA1700 for 12th, 13th and 14th generation Core processors
- Micro-ATX form factor, 244 x 244 mm
- 4 x DDR5 DIMM slots with Intel XMP support
- PCIe 4.0 x16 graphics slot and multiple PCIe 4.0 M.2 sockets
- Wi-Fi 6E and 2.5 Gb Ethernet onboard
The practical Intel build
LGA1700 is mature, which is a real advantage: BIOS releases are settled, memory compatibility is broad, and 13th and 14th generation Core chips have come down in price. The B760M-Plus WiFi II makes the most of that. Four DDR5 slots, three M.2 sockets, a VRM sized for a Core i7, Wi-Fi 6E and 2.5 Gb Ethernet all fit on a Micro-ATX board that drops into almost any case. For a South African buyer building a gaming and work machine on a fixed budget, this is a board that will not surprise you six months in.
The honest caveats
B760 does not allow CPU multiplier overclocking, so a K-series chip runs at stock. There is no PCIe 5.0 anywhere on this board, graphics slot included, so a future GPU generation would run at PCIe 4.0 speeds; in practice that costs very little today but it is a ceiling. LGA1700 is also a dead-end socket now that Intel has moved to LGA1851, meaning no new CPUs will appear for it. Micro-ATX limits you to a couple of expansion slots. Buyers wanting overclocking or a live upgrade path should be shopping Z790 or moving to LGA1851 instead.
