Everything Z890 offers, on a board built for people who use all of it
Quick Specs
- Intel Z890 chipset, Socket LGA1851 for Core Ultra Series 2 processors
- ATX form factor with four DDR5 DIMM slots and full XMP overclocking
- PCIe 5.0 x16 graphics slot plus multiple M.2 sockets including PCIe 5.0
- Thunderbolt 4 Type-C connectivity
- Wi-Fi 7 and high-speed wired Ethernet onboard
The Core Ultra board for creators and overclockers
Z890 is the only Intel LGA1851 chipset with CPU multiplier overclocking, and the Strix Z890-E is where that matters most. The VRM here is sized for a Core Ultra 9 running an all-core load indefinitely, memory tuning support is deep enough that fast DDR5 kits behave rather than fight you, and the lane budget lets you fill four M.2 sockets without stripping the expansion slots. Add Thunderbolt 4 and this becomes a genuine content-creation machine as well as a gaming one, which is exactly what a lot of South African buyers need out of a single PC.
Who should not buy this
If you are running a non-K Core Ultra 5 or 7 for gaming with one GPU and one SSD, this board is a waste of several thousand rand. B860 delivers identical frame rates and the same PCIe 5.0 graphics slot. The Strix Z890-E is also a physically imposing board with tall heatsinks and dense headers that fights compact cases and large air coolers. There is no onboard 10 Gb Ethernet at this tier either, so if your storage lives on a fast NAS you will still be adding a NIC. Overclocking headroom on Core Ultra is modest compared with previous generations, so buy this for lanes and I/O rather than for record chasing.
