Built for recorders that record and analyse
SkyHawk AI is Seagate's surveillance drive for network video recorders that run video analytics on top of continuous recording. It's rated for up to 64 HD camera streams plus 32 AI streams at the same time, and its firmware is tuned to avoid dropped frames when the write load is heavy. Conventional magnetic recording (CMR) and rotational vibration sensors keep it consistent in multi-bay recorders, and Seagate rates it for unlimited bays, 24x7 operation and 550TB of data a year. SkyHawk Health Management works with compatible NVR systems to flag problems early.
SkyHawk AI or standard SkyHawk?
The standard SkyHawk costs less and is fine for a home or small-business DVR with a modest number of cameras, but it's rated for 180TB a year and a 1 million hour MTBF. Choose SkyHawk AI for busy recorders, analytics or high-bitrate cameras. The 8TB and 10TB models are air-filled with 256MB cache, up to 255MB/s and a 2 million hour MTBF. From 12TB up, SkyHawk AI moves to helium, 512MB cache and 285MB/s. Like any surveillance drive, it's tuned for continuous writing, so it isn't the best pick for a PC boot or gaming drive.
