Where 850W Actually Lands You
850W is the comfortable tier for a current high-end single-GPU build: a Ryzen 7 or Core i7 paired with an RTX 5070 Ti or 5080, or a Radeon equivalent, with room left for a stack of drives and a full fan curve. MSI rates this unit for 2x total power excursion and 3x GPU power excursion, which is the specification that matters when a modern graphics card pulls a millisecond spike far above its rated draw. Older supplies trip their protection on those spikes even when the average load is well within budget. This one is built to ride them out.
Cabling and Airflow
Every cable detaches, so a build with one GPU and two SATA drives leaves the rest in the box instead of stuffed behind the motherboard tray. The cables are flat rather than sleeved round, which matters in cases with shallow rear clearance. The native 16-pin cable runs 16-pin to 16-pin with no adapter block hanging off the card, and its yellow connector body is deliberately visible against black cabling. Cooling is a 120 mm fluid dynamic bearing fan, a longer-lived bearing type than the sleeve fans used further down MSI's range.

Why MSI?
MSI builds power supplies to the same excursion and protection standards it designs its own graphics cards against, which is why its ATX 3.1 units tend to behave predictably under transient load rather than tripping. The MAG A850GL PCIE5 is covered by a 5 year warranty.

Questions
Before you buy
Is this enough power for my build?
It is a 850W supply rated 80 Plus Gold. Add up what your parts need - the graphics card is usually the biggest single draw, and every card we sell lists its recommended system wattage - then leave headroom above that figure. A supply running at roughly half its rating is quieter and lasts longer than one held near its limit.
Is it modular?
It is Fully Modular. Fully modular means every cable unplugs, so you only fit the ones you need; semi-modular keeps the motherboard and CPU cables attached and makes the rest optional; non-modular has them all permanently fixed. It is a tidiness and airflow question rather than a performance one. Never reuse cables from a different supply - the pinouts differ between brands.
Is it in stock, and when will it ship?
This one is out of stock at the moment. Stock does come back in - WhatsApp us on 079 491 0181 with the model and we will tell you what the supplier is showing and let you know when it lands, rather than leaving you to keep checking the page.
What does delivery cost, and how long does it take?
We deliver by courier anywhere in South Africa, and delivery is R180 on orders under R2 500 and free on orders of R2 500 or more. It takes 1-3 working days to Johannesburg, Pretoria, Cape Town, Durban and areas within 100km of them, and 2-4 working days to areas more than 100km from a major centre, counted from the day the order is dispatched. Need it sooner? Express delivery is 1-2 working days for R210, or R150 on orders of R2 500 or more - choose it at checkout. We do not ship outside South Africa.
Can I collect instead of having it delivered?
Yes. Collection is from 11 Voortrekker Avenue, Edenvale, Gauteng, by arrangement - message us first so we can have the order picked and waiting. We are open 09:00 to 16:30, Monday to Friday.
What warranty does it carry, and how do I claim?
The warranty period for this product is listed at the end of the Specifications section above. Claims go through us, not the manufacturer - contact us with your order number and a description of the fault and we will handle it from there. Separately from any warranty, the Consumer Protection Act gives you six months from delivery to return goods that are defective, unsafe or not fit for their intended purpose.
What if I change my mind?
You have 14 days from delivery to change your mind - longer than the seven days the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act requires. The item needs to be unused and in its original packaging, and we pay the return shipping. Refunds go back to the payment method you used, within 30 days of the return reaching us.
How can I pay?
Payments are processed by Stitch. At the last step of checkout you are taken to Stitch’s secure page to pay, and brought back here once it is done. Your card details are entered on Stitch’s secure, PCI-compliant page and never touch our systems.
