Lubing switches, changing springs or adding films all start with opening the switch, and doing it with a screwdriver is slow and risks snapping the housing clips. This Gateron opener uses leverage: drop a switch in, press, and the top housing pops off, so a full board's worth of switches becomes an afternoon job rather than a weekend. It is aimed at enthusiasts who already have a hot-swap keyboard and want to tune how it feels and sounds. If you only ever swap whole switches in and out, you do not need it, a switch puller is enough.
Which switches it fits
Keychron lists the opener as compatible with MX-style switches and clones, which covers the CHERRY MX2A sets and most Gateron, Keychron and other standard-height switches. It cannot open Kailh Box switches, and it does not work on any low-profile switch, so it is no use with the Gateron Low Profile 2.0 sets or slim Keychron K-series boards. Keychron does not publish material, dimensions or weight for the opener. Remember that opening switches is fiddly work; take your time with small springs and keep parts sorted.
