The base of a modular rig
Master Mount L, sold for years as the Elgato Multi Mount, clamps to the edge of your desk and gives you a tall, adjustable pole for a camera, light or microphone with a standard 1/4" thread. The ball head lets you angle the device, and the pole extends from 55cm to 125cm, so it covers eye-level webcam shots through to high, top-down angles. On its own it's a tidy way to get a camera off a tripod and onto the desk. It's also the core of Elgato's Multi Mount system, so you can add Flex Arm, Solid Arm or other parts later.
Check your desk and gear
The clamp opens to 6cm, which covers most desktops, but very thick tables or ones with a deep front lip may not fit. The 2kg load rating handles webcams, lights, mirrorless cameras and many DSLRs with small lenses, but a heavy body with a big zoom lens extended out on an arm is pushing it. Thin glass desks aren't a good idea with any clamp. If you mainly need a microphone mount, a dedicated boom arm such as Elgato's Wave Mic Arm range is easier to position.
