High refresh capture you can carry
Game Capture 4K X brings HDMI 2.1 to an external capture card. It passes through and records at up to 4K144, plus 1440p144 and 1080p240, so PS5, Xbox Series X and gaming PC players can keep their TV or monitor's high-refresh modes while capturing. HDR10 and variable refresh rate passthrough are supported, and it's plug and play on Windows, Mac and USB-C iPads with OBS, Streamlabs, Twitch Studio, vMix, Meld and Elgato's own software. Elgato Capture adds unlimited recording with no watermarks, a separate commentary mic track, AAF export for editors and Stream Link.
Check your port and screen
To get the full 4K144 you need a USB 3.2 Gen 2 (10Gbps) port; on a 5Gbps Gen 1 port it still works, but at reduced capture resolutions. Displays using Display Stream Compression limit it to 4K120. HDR capture is currently Windows only. If you play at 4K60 or below, the cheaper Game Capture 4K S does the job. For a fixed streaming PC, the internal 4K Pro adds 8K60 passthrough. Only unencrypted HDMI can be captured, so turn off HDCP on PlayStation.
