The X10 Pro is aimed at people who work with large video and photo files and want enough speed to edit directly from external storage. Reads of up to 2100MB/s and writes of up to 2000MB/s keep timelines responsive, and 2TB holds a good amount of footage. It connects over USB-C to Windows, Mac, Linux, Android and iPad devices, as well as Xbox and PlayStation consoles. Designed by Micron, the drive has an anodised aluminium body with a rubberised soft-touch base, a drive activity light in the lanyard hole, and password protection with 256-bit AES hardware encryption.
Getting full speed, and how it compares
The quoted speeds need a USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 (20Gb/s) port. Many laptops and desktops, and most Macs, only offer 10Gbps USB, where the drive runs well below its rated speed, so check your ports before paying for the extra performance. Compared with the standard Crucial X10, the Pro has the same top read speed but a 5-year warranty instead of 3 years and a soft-touch base. The standard X10 has the tougher rating (IP65 and 3 metres) against the Pro's IP55 and 2 metres. The drive is bus-powered and needs 5V/1A from the port.
