The first machine in this collection with a MUX switch and G-Sync - the features that separate a gaming laptop from a laptop that can game.
Quick Specs
- AMD Ryzen 7 260 processor
- NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5050 Laptop GPU, 8GB GDDR7
- 16GB DDR5 memory, 512GB PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD
- 16" 16:10 IPS-level anti-glare display with G-Sync
- Windows 11 Home, 1 year ASUS warranty
What the MUX switch actually does
On most cheaper gaming laptops the discrete GPU renders the frame and then hands it to the integrated graphics to display, which costs performance. A MUX switch lets the RTX 5050 drive the panel directly, and ASUS pairs it with NVIDIA Advanced Optimus so the machine can make that call automatically - discrete when you game, integrated when you are on battery. It is worth a meaningful percentage in frame rate, and it is why this sits above the Acer machines below it despite a similar GPU.
The chassis
TUF is ASUS's durability line, and the A16 is built around a 16-inch 16:10 panel - taller than a 16:9 screen, which helps as much in a spreadsheet as it does in a game. ASUS specifies this chassis with two DDR5 SO-DIMM slots up to 64GB and two M.2 slots, so both memory and storage are expandable later rather than soldered down. Wi-Fi 6E handles the networking.
FEATURES:
- MUX switch with NVIDIA Advanced Optimus and G-Sync

- Two M.2 PCIe slots for adding storage
- Backlit chiclet keyboard with single-zone RGB
