Built for recorders that record and analyse
SkyHawk AI is Seagate's surveillance drive for network video recorders that run video analytics on top of continuous recording. It's rated for up to 64 HD camera streams plus 32 AI streams at the same time, and its firmware is tuned to avoid dropped frames when the write load is heavy. Conventional magnetic recording (CMR) and rotational vibration sensors keep it consistent in multi-bay recorders, and Seagate rates it for unlimited bays, 24x7 operation and 550TB of data a year. SkyHawk Health Management works with compatible NVR systems to flag problems early.
Where the 10TB model fits
10TB is a practical size for a single or dual-bay NVR covering a small business or a large home, giving longer retention than 8TB for little extra cost. It shares the 8TB's air-filled design: 256MB cache, up to 255MB/s and a 2 million hour MTBF, drawing about 9W while recording. From 12TB up, SkyHawk AI moves to helium with 512MB cache, 285MB/s, lower power and 2.5 million hours. If your recorder only has a few cameras and no analytics, the standard SkyHawk (180TB/year) is the cheaper option. It's tuned for continuous writing, so don't buy it as a PC boot drive.
