For everyday DVR and NVR recording
The standard SkyHawk is Seagate's drive for home, office and small-business CCTV recorders. Its firmware is designed for continuous 24x7 video writing from up to 64 HD cameras, and it supports recorders with up to 16 bays. Rotational vibration sensors keep performance steady when several drives share a chassis, and tarnish-resistant components help in dusty or humid installations. Power draw is low at 5.3W while working and 3.4W idle, which keeps a recorder cooler in a cramped cabinet. SkyHawk Health Management works with compatible recorders to warn you before a drive fails.
SkyHawk or SkyHawk AI?
SkyHawk is rated for 180TB a year and a 1 million hour MTBF, which is plenty for typical home and small-business systems. If your NVR runs AI analytics, has more than 16 bays or records many 4K streams continuously, SkyHawk AI is the better buy: it's rated for 550TB a year and up to 2.5 million hours, with a 5 year warranty instead of this drive's 3 years. 6TB is a good middle capacity for an 8 to 16 camera system. Like all surveillance drives it's tuned for writing video, not for use as a PC boot drive.
FEATURES:
