Doubling to 16GB clears the most common source of sluggishness on those machines, and moving from single to dual channel gives a real, measurable lift wherever integrated graphics are doing the display work. Because 2666MHz is a JEDEC standard rather than an overclock, the module boots at its rated speed with no profile to enable and no compatibility gymnastics.

Honest limits

On its own, this is a single stick running in single channel, and 8GB alone is below what modern gaming needs — 16GB is the practical floor, 32GB the sensible build. If you are assembling a gaming PC from scratch, buy a matched dual-channel kit rather than two separate modules; kits are tested together and mixing individually-bought sticks can mean the system falls back to slower timings or, occasionally, refuses to train at all. 2666MHz is also modest by DDR4 standards. If your board and CPU support it and you are buying both sticks anyway, a 3200MHz kit is faster for very similar money. DDR4 will not fit a DDR5 board; the notch position differs. Match your existing module's speed and rank where possible, and check your motherboard's QVL.
