The entry rung of MSI's Bronze ladder: two 6+2-pin PCIe connectors and one CPU connector, which tells you exactly what it was designed to run.
Quick Specs
- 550W continuous output
- 80 PLUS Bronze certified, up to 85% efficiency
- Non-modular fixed cabling
- 1x EPS 4+4-pin CPU connector, 2x PCIe 6+2-pin
- 120 mm sleeve bearing fan
Who This Is Built For
550W is a budget gaming or office build: a Ryzen 5 or Core i5 with an RTX 5060, RX 9060 or similar 60-class card, one or two drives, nothing exotic. That combination sits comfortably under 400W in real use, so the supply spends its life in the efficient part of its curve. It is the wrong unit for anything higher. A single EPS connector rules out enthusiast motherboards that want two, and two 6+2-pin PCIe leads will not feed a card that asks for three. If your shortlist includes an RTX 5070 or above, start at the A650BN or A750BN instead.
The Non-Modular Trade-Off
Every cable is permanently attached. In a 550W build you will genuinely use the 24-pin, the CPU lead and probably one PCIe lead, leaving five SATA connectors, two Molex and an FDD lead to hide somewhere. In a case with a decent shroud and 20 mm of rear clearance that is a non-issue. In a compact chassis with a cramped cable channel it is an afternoon of coaxing. The upside is price: nothing here is paid for connector housings you will never plug into, and the full protection set is the same one MSI fits further up the range.

Why MSI?
MSI fits the same five-way protection circuit to its entry Bronze units as to units several times the price, so a budget build is not a less protected one. The MAG A550BN is covered by a 5 year warranty.
