A proper camera for calls and streams
Even a basic interchangeable-lens camera beats most webcams on sharpness, low-light noise and background blur. Cam Link 4K bridges the gap: connect the camera's HDMI output to the Cam Link, plug the Cam Link into a USB 3.0 port, and apps like OBS Studio, Zoom, Discord and Teams pick it up as a webcam with no drivers to install. Latency is low enough to keep audio and video in sync. It captures at up to 4K30, plus 1080p60 and lower, and is Zoom Certified. With an iPad that has a USB-C port you can also use it as a preview screen for framing and focus.
What your camera needs
Your camera must offer a clean HDMI output (no on-screen overlays) and ideally unlimited runtime, otherwise it may switch off after 30 minutes or show menus on stream. Elgato's Camera Check tool lists compatible models. 4K60 only works in MJPG on compatible cameras with the latest Cam Link 4K. An HDMI cable is not included, and many cameras use micro or mini HDMI, so buy the right cable. You'll also want a dummy battery or power adapter for long sessions. It needs a USB 3.0 port; USB 2.0 won't do.
