The ROG board most high-end AM5 builds should actually be using

Flagship behaviour in a case that fits
Hero is the sweet spot of the Crosshair range. It carries almost everything that makes the Extreme desirable — deep power delivery, an excellent memory-tuning BIOS, PCIe 5.0 throughout, USB4, Wi-Fi 7, SupremeFX audio, Q-Release and M.2 Q-Latch tool-free mechanisms — in a standard ATX footprint that fits the mid-towers most South African builders already own. For a Ryzen 7 9800X3D or Ryzen 9 9950X3D flagship gaming rig, it gives you the headroom and the diagnostics without pushing into E-ATX chassis territory and its associated cost.
The honest caveats
It is still an expensive board, and the performance uplift over a good B850 in games is small — you are buying build quality, overclocking headroom, connectivity and troubleshooting tools rather than frames. There is no OLED display and networking tops out at 5GbE rather than the Extreme's 10GbE, so a 10-gig home lab will want either the Extreme or an add-in NIC. Installing high-clearance memory alongside a large air cooler needs checking as always on AM5. Anyone building a budget or mid-range machine should look at a ROG Strix B850 board instead and put the saving into the GPU.
