Built for people chasing the last percent
The Crosshair X870E Extreme is the top of the AM5 stack, and it behaves like it. Power delivery is enormously overbuilt, the memory topology is tuned for the highest EXPO kits you can source locally, and the board gives you the tools serious overclockers actually use — onboard power and reset, Safe Boot and ReTry buttons, voltage read points, an OLED that tells you what failed instead of leaving you guessing. Networking runs to 10GbE plus 5GbE plus Wi-Fi 7, and storage provisioning is generous enough for a full PCIe 5.0 NVMe array alongside the GPU.
Almost nobody needs this board
Be blunt with yourself: in games, a Ryzen 9 9950X3D on a R6,000 B850 board performs within a couple of percent of the same chip here. The Extreme earns its money only if you are pushing memory subtimings, running sub-ambient cooling, or genuinely need 10GbE plus a stacked NVMe array plus multiple expansion cards. E-ATX also rules out a lot of mid-tower cases in the South African market, and you will need a large PSU with the correct connectors. If you want ROG features at a sane price, the Crosshair X870E Hero or a ROG Strix board is the smarter purchase.
