Where 550W lands in 2026
This is the budget gaming bracket. A six or eight core CPU with a 60-class card, an RX 9060 or similar, fits inside 550W with margin left for drives and fans. Push past that and the maths stops working. A 5070 Ti is out of scope here, and an RTX 5080 is not a conversation. The honest framing is that 550W buys you a first gaming build or a second machine for the family, and it is the wrong supply if you already know a big card is coming.
Living with fixed cables
Non-modular means the full harness is attached and stays in the case. In a budget build that is usually fine because a budget case normally has enough dead space behind the drive cage to stuff the unused SATA and Molex leads into. It becomes a problem in a short case where the supply shroud is tight or in anything with a tempered glass panel showing the cable run. The compensation is price: nothing at R599 comes modular, and the fixed harness is where that saving comes from.
