The right board for a Core i5 or i7 gaming build
Most LGA1700 gaming machines are built around a Core i5-13400F, i5-14600K or i7-14700F, and for those chips a B760 board like this is the correct call rather than a compromise. The Strix B760-F Gaming WiFi gives you a stout VRM with proper heatsinks, DDR5 with XMP tuning, three M.2 slots for a genuinely useful storage tier, Wi-Fi 6E, 2.5GbE and the ROG BIOS. In South Africa where DDR5 pricing has settled, it is a straightforward way to build a fast 1440p machine without paying the Z790 tax you would never use.
Where you will hit the ceiling
B760 does not allow CPU multiplier overclocking. If you specifically bought a K-series chip to push it, you need a Z790 or Z890 board — here it will run at stock boost behaviour only. Memory overclocking via XMP does work. There is no PCIe 5.0 for graphics or storage, no USB4 and no Thunderbolt, and the chipset provides fewer PCIe lanes than Z790, so heavily loaded storage and expansion configurations can share bandwidth. Anyone planning a Core i9 with sustained heavy all-core loads should also step up to a board with more VRM headroom.
