Built for recorders that record and analyse
SkyHawk AI is Seagate's surveillance drive for network video recorders that run video analytics on top of continuous recording. It's rated for up to 64 HD camera streams plus 32 AI streams at the same time, and its firmware is tuned to avoid dropped frames when the write load is heavy. Conventional magnetic recording (CMR) and rotational vibration sensors keep it consistent in multi-bay recorders, and Seagate rates it for unlimited bays, 24x7 operation and 550TB of data a year. SkyHawk Health Management works with compatible NVR systems to flag problems early.
When 20TB makes sense
At 20TB a single bay can hold weeks of high-bitrate 4K footage, which matters on sites with long retention rules or many cameras. It uses the same helium platform as the 12TB, 16TB and 24TB SkyHawk AI, with 512MB cache and 285MB/s, though idle power is slightly higher at 6.7W. Bigger drives mean longer RAID rebuilds, and Seagate's RAID RapidRebuild helps here on supported systems. Confirm your NVR supports 20TB drives first, since older recorders often don't. The minimum operating temperature is 10°C (drive reported). For a simple home DVR, the standard SkyHawk costs much less.
FEATURES:
- Supports up to 64 HD video streams and 32 AI streams
- Firmware tuned to minimise dropped frames under heavy workloads
- RAID RapidRebuild for volume rebuilds up to 3x faster
- Rotational vibration sensors for multi-bay NVRs
- 3 years of Rescue Data Recovery Services (not available in all countries)
