Full description and specifications

A 40-inch flat ultrawide with USB-C docking at 65W, which is a rarer combination than the refresh rate suggests.

Quick Specs

  • 40" IPS panel, flat
  • 3440 x 1440 (UWQHD) at 155Hz
  • 1ms MPRT response
  • VESA DisplayHDR 400, 400 nits
  • USB-C with DisplayPort Alt Mode and 65W power delivery

Forty inches, flat, and what that means

Note the size first, because it is easy to misread this model as a 34-inch screen. It is 40 inches diagonally at 3440 x 1440, which spreads the same pixel count over a much larger area than a 34-inch ultrawide and lands around 93 pixels per inch. Text is not as crisp as a 34-inch UWQHD panel and you will want to sit a little further back, but the sheer footprint is the appeal: three usable windows across, or a game that fills your peripheral vision without a curve distorting straight lines. The flat panel is deliberate and suits mixed work and play better than a tight curve does.

The USB-C port earns its place

One USB-C cable carries video, the USB hub and 65 watts of charging, so a laptop docks with a single connection and stays topped up while it drives the screen. That is genuinely useful if you work off a notebook and game off a desktop; it is worth nothing at all if you only ever plug in a tower, in which case ignore it and use DisplayPort. On the gaming side, 155Hz needs DisplayPort as well: the HDMI inputs cap at 3440 x 1440 and 100Hz. DisplayHDR 400 at 400 nits is entry-level HDR with no local dimming, so expect a brighter picture rather than a different one.

Why MSI?

Very few 40-inch ultrawides include USB-C power delivery, and MSI put it here rather than reserving it for a business line. The monitor ships through an authorised South African distributor with a 3 year warranty.

Questions

Before you buy

What do I need to run it at its full refresh rate?
To reach 155Hz at 3440 x 1440 you need a graphics card able to output that mode, a cable that supports it, and the refresh rate selected in Windows display settings - monitors often default to 60Hz out of the box. The ports on this panel are listed under Specifications above.
What sort of panel is it?
It is IPS with a 1ms MPRT response time. Panel type is the main thing that decides how a monitor looks off-centre and how it handles colour and contrast, so it is worth weighing against refresh rate rather than choosing on the headline number alone.
Can I wall-mount it or put it on an arm?
This is a 40.0 inch panel. Whether it takes a VESA mount, and at which spacing, is listed under Specifications - if a VESA size is shown there, any arm or bracket rated for that pattern and the monitor’s weight will fit. If you are not sure, send us the model of your arm and we will check.
Is it in stock, and when will it ship?
This one is out of stock at the moment. Stock does come back in - WhatsApp us on 079 491 0181 with the model and we will tell you what the supplier is showing and let you know when it lands, rather than leaving you to keep checking the page.
What does delivery cost, and how long does it take?
We deliver by courier anywhere in South Africa, and delivery is R180 on orders under R2 500 and free on orders of R2 500 or more. It takes 1-3 working days to Johannesburg, Pretoria, Cape Town, Durban and areas within 100km of them, and 2-4 working days to areas more than 100km from a major centre, counted from the day the order is dispatched. Need it sooner? Express delivery is 1-2 working days for R210, or R150 on orders of R2 500 or more - choose it at checkout. We do not ship outside South Africa.
Can I collect instead of having it delivered?
Yes. Collection is from 11 Voortrekker Avenue, Edenvale, Gauteng, by arrangement - message us first so we can have the order picked and waiting. We are open 09:00 to 16:30, Monday to Friday.
What warranty does it carry, and how do I claim?
The warranty period for this product is listed at the end of the Specifications section above. Claims go through us, not the manufacturer - contact us with your order number and a description of the fault and we will handle it from there. Separately from any warranty, the Consumer Protection Act gives you six months from delivery to return goods that are defective, unsafe or not fit for their intended purpose.
What if I change my mind?
You have 14 days from delivery to change your mind - longer than the seven days the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act requires. The item needs to be unused and in its original packaging, and we pay the return shipping. Refunds go back to the payment method you used, within 30 days of the return reaching us.
How can I pay?
Payments are processed by Stitch. At the last step of checkout you are taken to Stitch’s secure page to pay, and brought back here once it is done. Your card details are entered on Stitch’s secure, PCI-compliant page and never touch our systems.
