The cheapest sensible way to leave 60Hz behind, with an IPS panel instead of the TN screens this price used to buy.
Quick Specs
- 23.8" IPS, 1920 x 1080, 16:9
- 120Hz maximum refresh rate
- 1ms MPRT response
- 300 cd/m², 1500:1 typical contrast, 99% sRGB
- HDMI 1.4 and VGA, Adaptive-Sync
Where the money went, and where it did not
At this price ASUS spent the budget on the panel: IPS colour and 178-degree viewing angles rather than the washed-out shift you get off-axis from a cheap TN screen, plus 120Hz and Adaptive-Sync so frame pacing stays clean in the 60 to 120fps range most entry GPUs live in. What it does not have is DisplayPort, USB, speakers or a height-adjustable stand. Inputs are one HDMI 1.4 and one VGA, and tilt is the only adjustment. If you need a riser or an arm, the 100 x 100mm VESA pattern is there.
Why 23.8 inches and 1080p go together
Full HD stretched over a 27" screen looks soft because the pixels get large enough to see. At 23.8 inches the same 1920 x 1080 sits at roughly 93 PPI, which is where 1080p still looks tidy for text and game UI. That makes this a good second monitor, a first gaming monitor for a school-leaver build, or an office screen that happens to handle games well. Buyers who already run a 1440p card should skip it and put the money into resolution instead of saving it here.
