Built for recorders that record and analyse
SkyHawk AI is Seagate's surveillance drive for network video recorders that run video analytics on top of continuous recording. It's rated for up to 64 HD camera streams plus 32 AI streams at the same time, and its firmware is tuned to avoid dropped frames when the write load is heavy. Conventional magnetic recording (CMR) and rotational vibration sensors keep it consistent in multi-bay recorders, and Seagate rates it for unlimited bays, 24x7 operation and 550TB of data a year. SkyHawk Health Management works with compatible NVR systems to flag problems early.
Who needs 24TB per drive
This capacity is for large recorders and video management servers where bay count limits retention: campuses, mines, logistics yards and city surveillance. Power and performance match the 12TB and 16TB helium models (7.8W read/write, 6.3W idle, 285MB/s), so the cost per terabyte is the main decision. Rebuilding a 24TB drive takes a long time, so use RAID 6 or similar on large arrays, and confirm your NVR supports 24TB drives before buying. The minimum operating temperature is 10°C (drive reported). For a small home system, the standard SkyHawk or a lower capacity is better value.
FEATURES:
- Supports up to 64 HD video streams and 32 AI streams
- Firmware tuned to minimise dropped frames under heavy workloads
- RAID RapidRebuild for volume rebuilds up to 3x faster
- Rotational vibration sensors for multi-bay NVRs
- 3 years of Rescue Data Recovery Services (not available in all countries)
