The sensible middle capacity
2TB is the capacity most people end up needing from a portable drive: enough to back up a laptop with room to spare, carry a large game or photo library, or keep a season of family videos off your phone. The Expansion portable keeps things simple. Plug it in, it appears in Windows Explorer or macOS Finder, and you drag files across. Power comes over the USB cable, so there's no adapter to carry, and the slim 12.6mm case slides easily into a laptop sleeve. Seagate's Rescue Data Recovery Services are included if the drive is damaged.
Trade-offs to know about
It's a mechanical hard drive, so it's slower than a portable SSD and less tolerant of knocks while it's working. The included cable is USB 3.0, so a USB-C-only laptop will need an adapter or a different cable. Time Machine on a Mac requires reformatting the drive first. There's no backup software bundled, so if you want scheduled automatic backups, use Windows File History or set up Time Machine. If 2TB isn't enough, the 4TB model gives double the space but is thicker at 20.9mm and heavier at 257g.
