A storage hub for photo and video workstations
The 2big Dock is built for photographers and video editors who want their storage, card readers and monitor connection in one box on the desk. Two hot-swappable trays hold Seagate IronWolf Pro 7200 RPM drives, rated for 300TB a year of workload, which ship in RAID 0 for speed and can be switched to RAID 1 for mirroring or JBOD as two separate disks. The front has CFexpress Type B, CFast 2.0 and UHS-II SD slots plus a USB 3.2 Gen 2 hub that charges a phone at 7.5W, so offloading a shoot doesn't need extra readers. LaCie Toolkit handles RAID setup and scheduled backups.
RAID choices and what to plan for
In the default RAID 0 you get the full 16TB and the best speed, but if one drive fails, everything on the array is lost. Switch to RAID 1 and both drives hold the same data, halving usable space to about 8TB but surviving a drive failure. Either way, keep a separate backup. The second Thunderbolt 3 port daisy-chains up to five more Thunderbolt devices, and DisplayPort 1.4 drives one 8K 30Hz or 4K 120Hz monitor. It needs mains power from the included supply. If you only need a single drive without RAID or card readers, the LaCie d2 Professional costs much less.
